When did G-d Become A Sports Fan?

By John Blake, CNN

Our story starts on May 25, 2010, and takes place in sports stadiums all over the world. This story is about faith in many different sports, because nowadays, most athletes are starting to pray to G-d whenever the finish their games and win or lose. One such man who does this is Rich Franklin, a mixed martial arts fighter who is Christian who has Psalm 144:1 on his fighting gear and website. Whenever he wins like the night he beat opponent Travis Lutter. Many people wonder if it was Franklin
s movements that made him win, or if G-d was there to help him beat up his opponent. Franklin says that there have been times when he feels weak and thinks that he is going to lose, but then at the last moment, he comes through and wins the match. Some sports fans say that assuming G-d is a sports fan trivializes your faith. Another great athlete was Michael Chang who was the youngest person ever to win the French Open in 1989.

Our comment on this article is that when athletes praise G-d, they're doing the right thing, but they shouldn't credit their win with G-d, because it's as if they are giving their faith of to their fans in a bad way. We also think that if you win or lose a sporting competition G-d will still and always be with you.

Scientistis Discover Frog With Inflanting Nose

By Matthew Knight for CNN
May 17, 2010 -- Updated 1618 GMT (0018 HKT)

Our story starts on may 17th, 2010. Scientists have found a lot of new species of animals, a Pinocchio-like frog from an Indonesian rain forest found in Southeast Asia. The male tree frog has a pointed nose that inflates when calling to other members of it's species. This frog was one of the dozens of the new species found on an expedition to the Foja Mountains of the Papua province of Indonesia in New Guinea Island. Some of the animals that were discovered were a blossom bat, a black and white butterfly, the world's smallest wallaby, new imperial pigeons, a giant woolly rat, and a gecko with yellow eyes. According to officials, the Foja Mountains probably hold the highest number of species that haven't been found yet. During the expedition, biologists tracked down the new species from Kwerba, a village at the base of the Foja Mountaisn to it's peak at 7,200 feet high. The United Nations stated that even though thousands of animals and plants are being wiped out at an alarming rate, the discovery of new species levels out the number of plants and animals on this Earth.

Our opinion on the matter is that finding new species of animals everyday is very promising for the whole world, because when you find new animals that means that we will not be alone in the future years of our life, and all of our descendant's lives.

Fate or Fluke? Air Crash Sole Survivors

By Barry Neild, CNN
May 13, 2010 -- Updated 1429 GMT (2229 HKT)

Our story starts in the month of May. It is the 11 of May to be exact. Our story takes place in Libya. Air plane crashes are very common all around the world. But, to survive one, is that common at all? No, it is not. Even though it is very uncommon for people to survive air plane crashes, there have been some survivors. The number of survivors is only in the tens, not even reaching the hundreds. For some, when you survive an air plane crash it was either a miracle or a scientific detail. I believe that surviving an air plane crash would be classified as a miracle, because when you survive, it can only be a miracle. The most recent air plane crash survivor was a Dutch boy named Ruben van Assouw. The only injuries he suffered were some broken bones. The air plane he escaped was an Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330-200 which crashed on Tuesday at Tripoli International Airport which resulted in the death of 92 passengers and a crew of 11. Some survivors have been Bahia Bakari, in June 30, 2009, Francesca Lewis, in December 24, 2007, Erika Delgado, in January 11, 1995, and Cecelia Cichan in August 16, 1987, and a few more.

Our opinion on the matter is that when you survive an air plane crash, you could only have possibly been saved by G-d. We think that if you survive an air plane crash more than one time, it could only have been because of divine help. So, there indeed are some things that can only be proved with air plane crashes that show that G-d is above us, and will help us in times of need when it isn't our time yet.

Haiti's Latest Hardship: Relentless Rain

Post by: CNN's Moni Basu
May 4th, 2010
02:56 PM ET

Our story start on May 4, 2010, in Haiti. The central plaza in Port-au-Prince is now home to over a thousand displaced Haitians. Yesterday, water was pouring all through day and night. At the Champs de Mars, people tried to close all possible entrances from the rain, but to no avail. The only good thing from the rain was that sun-scorched children could finally escape the heat with the rain. Aid workers say that the never-stopping rain could overflow garbage canals, which would help the smell at all. Many Haitians are used to the rain. It comes in May, and then the rain starts to come for a several months. There also is a risk of a hurricane coming into the land devastated by the earthquake in January. Officials estimated that 2 million Haitians lost their homes can more than 1,300 are living in makeshift camps. For many, a tent is a good place to be in an earthquake but not in a hurricane or the heavy rain. There are almost 50,000 peoples are camped on the nine-hole Petionville Golf Club, but when it rains, it turns into a huge mud slide. The major worry for now is that the unsanitary conditions could cause malaria, cholera and dengue fever outbreaks all throughout the camps. Now, more than 2 million people are sleeping in tents.

Our opinion is that this piece of news is very shocking, because it can show us how much pain the Haitians are going through. We also believe that this could be helped more if more people were to go to Haiti to help Haitians go through all these problems. We think that all the countries in the world help Haiti, then it will be done in no time. So, don't forget, help another, to help yourself.

Solar Power Airplane Really Works

April 19, 2010 -- Updated 1246 GMT (2046 HKT

NO AUTHOR

It’s April 9 2010, the new sun-powered Solar Impulse HB-SIA air plane just took off a runway in Paverne, Switzerland, on its first flight, or maiden voyage. Over the next 87 minutes, it went up to 1,200 meters, which really is very high up in the sky. This is a very green invention that will be powerful and helpful, for our future, no contamination at all. The aircraft is capable of achieving night flight, by using energy stored during the day. The airplane was tested to make sure that it would work, so that nothing wrong would come from it during flight; a smooth first flight because of maintenance. CNN spoke with the Solar Impulse Chairman and initiator, Bertrand Piccard. At first indication, the aircraft went even higher than was expected. According to Mr. Piccard, this technology can forever change solar energy as we know it. So, what we can take from this, is that solar energy will always be able to help us achieve what we want in a natural and clean way.

Our comment over the matter is that, this notion of starting with solar energy is a big leap for man kind. We know this, because solar energy has no pollution emissions , so we now know that solar energy is good for all of us. We can’t forget to use it!

Fast Food Threats Are Shrinking

By Sara Bonisteel, Special to CNN April 19, 2010 -- Updated 1432 GMT (2232 HKT)

It is April 19, 2010. Fast Food restaurants are constantly changing. Fast food restaurants are now trying to reduce the size of their Super-Size menu's to smaller portions. We have seen this in all countries and almost every fast food restaurant like McDonalds, Burger King, Dairy Queen are now doing this. The latest company to do this was Dairy Queen, which shrunk it's Blizzard( A frozen threat) from a 12 ounce cup to a 7 ounce cup. It's not only smothies we're talking about, it's drinks, sodas, burgers ect. They did this because their companies really listened to their costumers which is good because the customers wanted smaller size food. At Burger King one small item that was introduced recently to their menus were B.K burger shots and McDonalds introduced a Big Mac Snack Wrap.

Our opinion is that this is very good for everybody, because there is going less fast food in the world with samaller sizes and less fat. We all think that this could help to make sure that there are less fat people all over the globe, because smaller sizes means less fat people. We all think that this probably was the best thing that Fast-Food companies have done in a 100 years, because we all now know that in order to be a good, healthy person, you need to be very good at eating healthy food and excersise the right amount. Really talke care when you eat, and remember less always is more!

Ship's Paint Bringing Instant Death to The Great Barrier Reef

Post by:

It was the last week April 8, 2010 and the story starts here. A Chinese coal ship called the Shen Neng 1 was in Australia's Great Barrier Reef, and it caused a lot of damage. The total amount of damage that it cause was over a two mile stretch of the World Heritage Area that could take years to repair. According to the chairman of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority said last Tuesday. According to officials, the toxic anti-fouling paint had been scrape off the ship's hull, therefore spreading on a coral reed and killing many organisms. The paint was so toxic, because the paint contained biocides that are meant to make sure that barnacles and othere marine organisms are prevented from sticking to the ship's hull while it travels over the sea, so it doesn't have to be cleaned as much without the paint. So, the paint was harmful to marine life. When the paint comes into contact with the reef it kills the corals immediately or almost immediately. Officials said that the damage left by the Shen Neng 1 will probably be the largest operation ever done on the reed. Australian authorities said the the ship, a coal carrier was 17 miles off course when it ran aground Tuesday. This comes to show that putting anti-fouling paint an a huge ship is just plain wrong.

Our comment on this piece of news is that intentionally putting this type on paint on a huge ship is very stupid, and shows that you don't think before doing . I think that the Australian government it doing the right thing, according to what happened, and in order to stop any type of blood feud with the Chinese government the Australian government should keep on doing what they are doing, working together to help their natural heritage. The Great Barrier Reef. Thanks!

Erupting Volcano Boosts Tourism In Iceland

By Christine Theodorou, CNN

It is April 5th 2010 a long volcano that has been asleep for many years in Iceland erupted last month. This make sure that a lot of turist are now visiting Iceland to see the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. Even dough the volcano is in a remote location, under a glacier it is full of tourists that want to see the lava flows and volcanic plumes. For less than $400 a person, you can visit the volcano from the capital. The volcano is part of a 100/mile trip, and is 4,000 feet above sea level. Even dough there is a lot of snow, the volcano's lava still flows. There is a 1 km area that is restricted from tourists and other parts of the glacier are off limits. Officials say that there is no threat to people that look at the volcano, but some residents have evacuated their homes because of floods. The only problems that officials have found were hikers that didn't had their right equipment. The last eruption of the volcano was in 1821 and it hasn't erupted till now.

Our opinion is that the volcano coming out to the public is good and bad; it has pros and cons. The pros are that since the volcano first erupted since March 20, 2010, this has helped Iceland's economy a lot, since the fist tourists first visited the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, Iceland's has been helped extremely. The cons are that the volcano could effect Iceland, because the eruptions could cause a lot of damage to the surrounding country. So, after that I tell you that these volcanoes all over the world will always have pros and cons. So, this is good for Iceland.

Medical Marijuana usrers risk job loss

By Stephanie Chen, CNN

Can YOU be fired for legally smoking medical marijuana? Well in Michigan, Joseph Casias now 29 years old, had to use marijuana to take away the pain from a rare kind of cancer that he had that occupied his nose and brain. Joseph worked at Wal-Mart in November of 2009 because his boss made him take a drug test in which he was positive. He said that he had never gone to work high and he had a medical marijuana card that let him legally smoke marijuana, so he didn't know why he was fired.

14 states do let you smoke medical marijuana but, they can still fire you for legally smoking it. Because of this a lot of people are getting fired for legally smoking marijuana. California was the first state to legalize it. The law states in many states says that people who smokes it, can be fired from their jobs. Dr. Lester Grinspoon a professor from Harvard, said that when people smoke marijuana and get high, the high goes after a few hours but people that smokes medical marijuana, they don't get high as much as non medical marijuana. At least 16 states are going to legalize medical marijuana. Joseph Casias said that because he couldn't work in Wal-Mart he has $10,000 of unpaid medical bills. Right now he is wonders if he will work again and if his cancer will get better.

Our opinion is that Joseph and other people who smokes medical marijuana should be working now. We also think that if maybe the company should pay him all of the medicine. Then the company would discount a little of money every month so he also could buy food and other needs.

African Teen King Lives Dual Life

Journalist Samson Ntale contributed to this report.

There are many different types of people in this world. There are people who look Asian, American, Latino, etc. In some parts of the world, though, people can be kings or peasants. But, in our story that doesn't matter. Our story starts in the Tooro Kingdom of Uganda. This story is about a very young king called King Oyo. He lives on Fort Portal, Uganda on a hill overlooking the city. King Oyo is 17 years, but became king at the age of 3, when his father died in 1995. This king really started to be recognized as king at the age of 7, which was when he started to rule with the help of some advisers, such as the president of Libya. When asked, about being king, he says that there is a lot of responsibility. He says that there are many things he wants to do, but he can't because of all the things he has to do. So. we can know that he does have a lot of do everyday, and isn't a normal child like us.

My opinion on the matter, is that being a king would be good and bad for me. It would be good, because I would be powerful, and get everything I could ever want or need. The bad thing, though, would be the fact that I wouldn't be a normal kid, and I would have so much responsibility and things I would have to do. In retrospect, I don't think being a king would help me in life at all. I would get some benefits, but I know now, that king wouldn't work for me. So, I end by saying that like who you are, because you're stuck with it.

Biologists: Killer whales 'neurotic' in Captivity

By Elizabeth Landau, CNN February 25, 2010 9:25 p.m. EST

SeaWorld animal trainer Dawn Brancheau died Wednesday after many traumatic injuries and drowning after a whale called Tilikum pulled her ponytail, and dragged her underwater at Shamu Stadium, in Orange County, Florida. This happened, because whales are not to be kept in captivity and this is a animal that weighs 2,000 pounds and can travel 100 nautical miles every day and putting them in a pool away from their families damages their brain. Tilikum, a whale, weighs about 12,000 pounds and is linked to others the deaths of other whales and trainers in 1991 and 1999, in SeaWorld in British Columbia, Canada. Whales are dangerous in captivity because of their big size. Annette Eckis Godsey was a victim of an accident in a 1972 accident, and because of that she had to have 200 stitches waist down. In the wild, these accidents never happen, so this tells us that these whale attacks aren’t natural.

My opinion is that whales should never, never be kept captive.

18 Killed In Belgian Train Crash, Offical Says

CNN's Jessica Hartogs, Cristina Lynch, Claudia Rebaza, Nick Hunt and Abey Benga contributed to this report.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/02/15/belgium.train.crash/index.html

Our story starts in Belgium on Monday. At least 18 people died and 162 people were hurt when two trains crashed in Belgium, but an official told CNN that these numbers weren't final. This crash happened in Halle, Belgium, where Dirk Pieters said that 20 people had died. This crash happened at 8:30 a.m., the companies that run the Belgian Railways said. Even though there has been a lot of investication on the accident, so far, nobody knows what caused this accident. Officals believer that there may be bodies buried under the crashed trains, so they plan to lift up these trains by Tuesday. Bart Ouvry, a Beligian Government Spokesman said that it was snowing at the time of the accident, but not a abnormal amounts, so this could have been one of the factors that caused the accident. When the train crashed, many were thrown against the walls of the train, which hurt them a lot, while others where alriaght at the time of the accident. It took 30 minutes for the Emergency Rescue Crews to arrive, and they had to take 55 people to the hospital, while other were treated for minor injuries. Another factor in this accident, was the fact that this accident occured during rush hour, so there was a lot of pressure on the early morning trains. The train company involved in the crash was Eurostar, and it had to suspend high-speed train services between London, England, and Brussels, Belgium. The prime minister will visit the crash site, as soon as he gets back from his visit to Albania. Thalys, another company, also had to suspend all of it's services between Brussels, Belgium, Paris, France, and Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Colonge, Germany. Many train companies now urge their costumers to check the train's web site, so they could know if their train was going to leave or not. In the end, all I can say, is that this crash was terrible, for all of us.

I think that this piece of news is very important for our society, because it tells us how accidents happen, and how they can be prevented, so when you think about an accident next time, remember that it didn't happen on purpose, it always will have a cause and a affect. So, my opinon on the matter is that this accident never should have happened, and we should always be more careful, from now on. Take care!

Snow Brings Cities Across South To Stanstill

CNN's Dan Gilgoff and Khadijah Rentas contributed to this report.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/weather/02/12/winter.snow.storms/index.html?hpt=T1,

Atlanta, Georgia. This is where it is all happening. This Friday, the snow in the South was very strong and heavy, yet it didn't do all the damage it was intended to do so. Even though all the damage people thought would happen didn't happen, the snow still caused schools all around the Southern United States to close for these heavy snow days. A lot of cities used emergency crews to clean up the areas while school where closed. Eight inches of snow fell in De Kalb, Mississippi, while 200 miles away in Biloxi, Mississippi, snow fell, but melted by morning. Most people in Georgia, are getting ready for a lot of snow to paralyze some parts of the state. Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport had hundreds of flighs canceled, and reported to having an estimated four inches of snow. Because of these extreme conditions, a lot of accidenets have been reported over these last few months of hard snow. Part of western Alabama is receiving clear skies, which is expected to go into Georgia, which means that the snow will soon stop. A lot of civilians in Louisiana, said that they hadn't seen snow like that in eight years. A lot of Louisiana now has had about three inches of snow, which isn't too hard on them. A lot of peoples have said that they have not seen snow very often, even after a long time of living where they are now living. The Dallas-Fort Worth area had a record of 12.5 inches of snow, which is a lot! Because of all this snow in the Texas area, American Airlines, canceled 230 flights in Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is a lot of lost fights. A lot of places received extreme snow such as much as 30 inches of snow, and even Baltimore, Maryland received 22.5 inches of snow, which points out that the areas that received the most snow where on the NorthEastern part of the United States, which means that they need a lot of help. The real record thought, is at Dulles International Airport, west of Washington with a wooping 72 inches of snow, which isn't good at all. So, at the end of all of this, we can say that these types of snow measurements aren't good at all, and that the North East of the United States needs to call 911. So, remeber, always be careful are the great snow.

This year toyota has been going through a lot of problems like brakes problems, sudent acceleration, electronic problems this is an overwelming problem for toyota owners. Many people have crashed becuase brakes problems and acceleration. But know in The U.S.A they have to discontinue every car that was being made and have to make a new safety car for security for toyota owners. In Guatemala they say that almost all cars are made in Asia more than 95 percent but the other 5 percent are made in united states.

Inspired by Mandela's Stubborn Sense of Fairness

Our story start in Atlanta, Georgia, from CNN. People who love freedom should be able to remember the day, 20 years ago, when Nelson Mandela was released from a Cape Town, South Africa, jail. While he had been in prison for 27 years of hard work, bitterness, sadness, and isolation, he finally was left to go from the jail. When people asked him what he missed the most in jail, he said it was the sound of children laughing. Now that he is 92, he is very weak on the outside. but isn't on the inside, he is very strong. This week, there are many celebrations in his name, but he won't be going to anyone but one: the celebration of the opening of Parliament and the address to the nation by the South African president, Jacob Zuma. A lot of politians wonder if Mandela should skip this event as well, seeing as President Zuma has a scandalous life with his 20th child and a lot of friends, but if he wants to go to this celebration, he should. Two years ago, the president confessed to have unprotected sex with a friend of his that had HIV, so that isn't good at all. When Mandela went to jail, he did so in orden to preserve freedom, and liberty, which is why he is such a good person. When he was president, he stood for freedom, and that is something that we should always remember.

The Capture of Portillo Helps The Fight Against Coruption

It was yesterday, January 26, 2010. I was at home on 6:30 pm. I was reading the newspaper, to see what I missed reading in the morning. I knew that something exciting and new was going to happen about the ex-president's case. I had a feeling that something weird was about to happen during my afternoon reading in my living room. So, I read and read, and finally I saw it. The huge newspaper title read: The Capture of Portillo Helps The Fight Against Corruption. I knew I had to read this, and so I did.

According to this article, the capture of Portillo helped Guatemalan justice prevail, over the usual veto of crime over justice. According to most experts, when Portillo was captured, that opened many doors for Guatemala. So, when this happened, most people were saying that now, criminals will think twice about messing with justice. According to this article, most criminals will now be trembling in their homes, because they now know that justice is behind their tails. With some help from the Cicig (in Spanish), Guatemala will be able to use justice fast and strong to stop crime. The annalist Alvaro Pop said that Guatemalan justice will take advantage of having Portillo in jail, in order to find out about the Mafia in many parts of this world. According to many peoples, when Portillo arose to power, the Mafia sent him and supported him, in order for him to be that powerful. A lot of other people say that we have not seen the end of Portillo, and he is not done will his vile actions...yet. This has been from the ICT Lab.

Pictures Of Adopted Children From Haiti

Adopted Haitian Kids Were Almost Home When Quake Hit

There are a lot of orphans in the world, but now because of the earthquake, there are a lot more orphans in Haiti. This is very sad, because now that means that there had to be more deaths involved with these orphans, so this is very sad. For many families, like the Bostons, seeing that your almost-adopted little girl could have died in a earthquake is frightening. The Bostons really want to get their adopted girl back, so if they could, they would go on a plane to pick her up. But, sadly they can't, because at the moment, ever since the earthquake, a lot of adoption papers have been buried under rubble ever since the earthquake. That girl, Farica has a US passport, so she is a US citizen, but because of her lack of adoption papers, she can't go to the US. Before the earthquake happened, the Bostons were two weeks away from adopting Farica, but the earthquake slowed everything up. Two woman from Pennsylvania, are watching Farica, and they were the ones who told the Bostons, what had happened to Farica. A lot of rumors have been circulating everywhere which say that there is going to be a meeting about this happening in the world. This rumor is wrong, just like a Mr. Boni said.As I am writing this, you can rest assured that everybody who is somebody is working on this, so be careful, and happy that you are safe. Take care all!
